The majority of us fumbled
through the market early in the morning to buy more cheese for today’s
presentation. We sat and discussed our favorite portion of the program and
where improvements could be made before starting the presentations. I have
stage fright and get quite embarrassed when too many eyes are on me, but the
presentation atmosphere was informative but relaxed. We all enjoyed one
another’s cheeses. The wine and cheese pairings were beautiful! They really
showed how we all came a long way from day one where the wine tasted “like
grapes” and smelled “like alcohol”.
It was interesting that no one picked a red wine!
After the presentations,
some people headed to the cheese tower. I decided to stop by Alice’s shop to
say goodbye and buy some wines to bring home. I have no idea how I’m going to
carry 5 bottles of wine plus a bottle of cassis syrup home. I rejoined with
everyone and headed to a graveyard away from the center of the town. The French
really make use of ceramic flowers on graves. It was spooky but had a different
feel than American graveyards. We also peaked over the stonewall and saw cows
grazing nearby. I will miss seeing cows everywhere. I’ve become so accustomed
to them! We headed back to have our final meal. I thought it would only be
appropriate to end my Cluny food adventures the way I had started: Tartare de
Beouf! It was the incredible.
We spent the rest of the
night enjoying a bottle of wine and promising each other we would still be as
close when we got back. We had the most incredible time in France. I could not
imagine the study abroad experience being what it was without any of them as
well as the professors.
