Hello everyone!
My name is Alejandra Villalobos and in less than 24 hours I will be
headed off to Belize for my two-week study abroad experience. I will be in the
ISIS Belize summer studies program, and will particularly be doing an animal science
course called: Large Animal Veterinary Practices in the Tropics. I am currently
a sophomore in SEBS majoring in Animal Science, which pretty much explains why
I was fascinated when I heard about ISIS and their course offerings. Since I
was a young girl, I always knew I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up,
and until this day that still holds. Knowing that I will actually be doing
veterinary procedures, I am hoping to absorb information and enhance my skills
so that I can be the best I can be when it comes to applying for vet school. I
am so grateful that Rutgers was able to fund my trip by providing me with a
scholarship, because if I wouldn’t have received the scholarship, I would not
be going on this trip. I am very excited yet nervous, as this will be my first
time flying alone out of the country. I still cannot believe that my mother is
letting me go alone, but it is so great to know that she is always there supporting
me in all that I do. While I’m only staying for two weeks, I plan on making the
most out of this opportunity and hope that this will be a life-changing
experience for me. I hope to learn more about cultures other than my own, and
make some long-lasting friendships. Everyone who has studied abroad tells me
that it has been one of the greatest experiences of their lives, and I simply
cannot wait to experience it for myself. I guess I should probably go to sleep
now since I have to be up at 5 a.m tomorrow. I swear I can’t believe I’m
leaving tomorrow, but I’m hoping for the best!
Moms are pretty awesome! Glad your trip is so exciting!
